If a remodel or new build is part of your plans for 2027, it may feel early to start working with an interior designer. But the design process begins much earlier than most homeowners realize.

By the time construction starts, I want many of the important decisions already made. The layout has been thoughtfully considered, materials have been selected, key details have been communicated, and we have a clear vision for how the entire home should come together.

That preparation is what allows the project to move forward with intention.

Your Designer Should Be Involved Early

Interior design is about much more than choosing finishes once a home is underway.

Early in a project, I’m thinking about how you’ll move through the space, where furniture will live, how lighting will function, what needs to be communicated to the builder, and how decisions made in one room will affect another. A small change on a floor plan can influence lighting, cabinetry, furniture placement, and even how comfortable a room feels when it’s finished. Having a designer involved early means we can catch those details while there is still time to address them thoughtfully.

There Are More Decisions Than You Think

A full-home project involves hundreds of decisions, and many of them are connected. Flooring affects cabinetry. Cabinetry affects hardware and countertops. Furniture placement affects electrical and lighting. Materials need to work together from one space to the next.

My job is to look at the complete picture.

Rather than asking you to make one isolated decision after another, I create a clear design direction so each selection has a reason behind it and contributes to a cohesive finished home.

Starting Early Gives Us Options

One of the greatest benefits of beginning the design process early is simply having time.

Time to explore the right materials. Time to refine a layout. Time to source pieces that truly belong in the home. Time to work through changes before they become expensive construction changes. It allows us to be thoughtful instead of reactive.
